Onboarding Android Devices

Onboarding Android Devices

Any Lenovo Android device can be claimed and provisioned in Device Management in two ways - scanning a QR code from the Device Management portal or through a manual registration process.

Adding Android Devices

  1. Go to Device Management > Devices page.
  2. Click the ✚ Onboard Device button.
  3. Select OS type: Android

Registering Devices Using QR Code

You can follow one of the following methods to install the UDC agent and/or provision the device:
    1. Scan QR code - On devices with preloaded UDC, scan the QR code using the device camera to register the device to the Device Management organization and provision all device configurations.

    2. Download QR code - If the device is not immediately available to scan the QR code, or if you need to distribute it to multiple devices in your organization:
      1. Select a file format fron the dropdown list
      2. Click Download
      3. Click Complete.

    3. Setup UDC client as Device Owner - If your device does not have pre-installed UDC package, select this option to install UDC client as a device owner. Follow the below steps:
      1. Click on that button
      2. Enter your WiFi settings (SSID, WiFi Security).
      3. Click on Next.
      4. The new QR code is generated. You can also download it (see steps in section B).
      5. Go to Device Management > Devices page. The device status will be Active.

Registering Devices Manually

You can manually register an Android device if you encounter issues with scanning the QR code or if the device lacks a camera..
  1. Select Manual Registration.
  2. Click Next.Click the Download File button.
  3. Copy the udc-provision file to the root folder of the device.
  4. Reboot the device.
  5. Go to Device Management > Devices page. The device status will be Active.
Warning
Manually claiming this device will not permit Device Owner capabilities and will limit management functionality for the device in Device Management.

Remote Configuration of Android Devices

In situations when a device is lost or stolen, it's important that Organization Admins have the ability to remotely configure the Android device to avoid unauthorised access. Org Admins can lock the device and reset the device password/PIN from the Device Settings sub-tab in the Device Information tray.
