Using Intel vPro® Agent in LDO

Lenovo Device Management supports Intel vPro® EMA functionality on licensed devices that are provisioned with the Intel vPro® agent. Depending on whether a device uses an Intel vPro® Essentials or Intel vPro® Enterprise chipset, some LDO features may be available differently. This guide outlines the Intel vPro® features available through LDO.



  1. Intel vPro® Features which require a vPro® chipset (out-of-band functionality):
    1. Remote BIOS Management.
    2. Remote Power Management – Power on, off, restart, sleep, wake, hibernate (Requires AMT version 11.8 or higher).

The Intel vPro® agent can be installed to devices with the Intel vPro® chip automatically during provisioning or manually after the devices are claimed on LDO.
  1. Intel vPro® Features which only require  Intel vPro® agent  (In-band functionality – no chipset required):
    1. Remote Desktop Management – Remote Desktop can be leveraged on devices which do not have an Intel vPro chip. Intel, AMD, and Windows ARM devices can use Remote Desktop if the Intel vPro® agent is installed.

Intel vPro® Branding in LDO

The Intel vPro® branding displayed in Device Management depends on Device Manageability and ME version. The below table depicts the different variations in Device Manageability and ME version and the Intel vPro® branding that will be displayed in Device Management (Intel vPro® Enterprise/Intel vPro® Essentials/Intel vPro®). Depending on the Manageability and ME version combination, the corresponding brand logo/name will be displayed in the device list and in Device Details.

For non-Intel vPro® devices with LDO Intel vPro agent installed manually, the brand name will be displayed as Intel vPro® without any logo.



Installing the Intel vPro® Agent

By default, automatic installation of Intel vPro® agent is disabled under Policy Management > Feature Settings > Auto Install of Intel vPro® Agent. The organization administrator can choose to enable or disable the automatic installation of Intel vPro® agent.

When enabled, LDO automatically detects devices equipped with an Intel vPro® chipset and initiates the Intel vPro® Agent installation during device provisioning. 


Manual Installation 

If a device was not initially identified as an Intel vPro® device during the claiming/provisioning process, but can be identified as having Intel vPro®, IT Admins can deploy the Intel vPro® Agent manually by following the below steps. Once installed, the additional Intel EMA features and functionality will be available for the device. 
  1. Navigate to Device Management > Devices page.
  2. Select the device from the Devices list.
  3. In the Device Details page, answer Yes to the “Is this an Intel vPro® device” question. 
  4. The Intel vPro® agent will be deployed to the device automatically upon the next UDC check in.
  1. If the question does not immediately appear or it had previously been answered with No, simply click on the Install Intel vPro® Agent option at the top of the Device Details page.

  2. If it is not an Intel vPro® device, or you want to wait to install the Agent on the device, select No or click on the X to close the question box. You can always go back later and select Install Intel vPro® Agent at the top of Device Details.


Uninstalling the Intel vPro® Agent

If, for any reason, the Intel vPro® agent needs to be removed from a device, IT Admins can easily do so by:
  1. Navigate to Device Management > Devices page. Select the device from the Devices list.
  2. Select Uninstall Intel vPro Agent on the top right corner of the Device Details page. 
  3. Select Proceed to confirm. The agent will then be removed with the next device update.
Notes
Once uninstalled, LDO will no longer display the Intel vPro features and functionality for the device. The Intel vPro agent can be reinstalled on the device later if desired.
